Suha Derbent
Working as a professional photographer for 20 years, Siiha Derbent took travel photographs for the Cumhuriyet daily, Atlas magazine and Marie Claire magazine respectively. He also worked as Director of Photography for two years at the Gezi National Geographic Traveler published by Number One Hearst Publishing. Derbent travelled through more than 60 countries ranging from Scandinavia to Madagascar, Sri Lanka to Canada.
Aiming to photograph the main behaviour patterns of the seven large wild cats living on earth, Derbent has so far photographed the entire behaviour patterns of seven of these cats. The large cats he photographed are the lion, the leopard, the cheetah, the tiger, the purna, the jaguar and the snow leopard. Derbent, who went to the Virunga National Park in Congo in 2007 with WWF-Tiirkiye General Manager Dr. Filiz Demirayak to photograph the mountain gorillas facing extinction has donated his entire archive of photographs of species under threat of extinction to WWF-Tiirkiye.
In July 2002, his first book "Ytiz Yuze" (Face to Face) was published by Is Bankasi Ktilttir Yayinlan. Immediately following the book's publication, CNN International interviewed Suha Derbent about this book. This interview was broadcast five times in CNN International "World Report".
In 2005 Canon Photo-Video products Turkey Distributor Erkayalar Fotografcilik became the equipment and brand sponsor for Derbent. Through this support of the Erkayalar firm, Derbent continues his work by using the most advanced digital photography technologies available.
